The short version

Browsing Multiplication.one as a regular visitor sets only Google Analytics cookies so we can see aggregate traffic numbers (visit counts, popular pages). No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers beyond Google Analytics, no cross-site profiling.

A single session cookie is set only if you use the Suggest something form, and it is only used to protect that form from spam. It is deleted when you close the browser.

What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember information between page loads or visits. Most websites use some. The Cookie Law (ePrivacy Directive) means we need to tell you which ones we set and why.

Google Analytics (analytics cookies)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit the site, which pages are popular, and roughly where visitors come from (country level). This helps us decide what to build next. Google Analytics sets cookies named starting with _ga (usually _ga and one per property, e.g. _ga_XXXXXXXXXX). IP addresses are anonymised. We do not share this data with anyone. Suggestion-form session cookie

If you open the /tips page a session cookie called m1sid is set. Its only job is to hold the CSRF token that stops a bot on another site from submitting the form on your behalf. The cookie contains a random string and is deleted when you close the browser. Nothing about who you are is stored server side against it.

  • No third-party marketing beacons
  • No social-media tracking pixels
  • No AdSense or DoubleClick

Turning cookies off

You can opt out of Google Analytics for all sites via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can also block cookies in your browser settings - the site will still work, we just will not see your visit in our aggregate numbers.
